We were alerted to a strange case to be heard at the St. Thomas City Court. On November 29, 2024. Here is the break down of the case. Alfie whose has a tent pitched in an undisclosed location in St. Thomas for 3 years. Everyone in the area knew about long term resident Alfie and her was lightly known as the “site mayor”. Alfie had a moderately sized area, 2 tents one being a sleeping quarters and a the other eating and storage. Having 2 medium sized dogs, Alfie needed the space and the nearest tent to Alfies was 30 feet away and most others have about 5-15 feet apart. On October 13, 2024 and while Alfie was out with his dogs “collecting” a new person “Doug” entered the area and pitched his tent 6 feet from Alfie’s Tent. Alfie arrived later that day to find Doug sitting in front of a fire while his large was sniffing around his Tent. An argument ensued for a few hours and Doug had agreed that next morning Doug will pack up and move down in with the others. The morning came and went a Doug didn’t leave. Days past and went and still no movement. Alfie tried to get on with life as he knew it but it was hard for him and his dogs. Items started to go missing from his area and their dogs were frequently barking. October 28 Alfie had enough and got the police to his site to have them remove Doug who Alfie said is trespassing with his dog. The police could not find any trespassing since the property they are on is City property. The next day Alfie took matters into his own hands after food gone missing and more and more of Doug’s garbage blowing all over Alfie’s area. Alfie put up “No Trespassing” signage around his site and whole are he had exclusive use of for years. Went to the Court House and filed to and served Doug for trespassing and is asking for $5,000.00 in damages.

During the trial, Doug did not show up, and the court room was pretty empty due to the smell. The Judge heard Alfie’s case, empathized with him but threw it out as it is not Alfie’s land to begin with.
That wasn’t the resolution he was looking for. Doug is still trespassing according to Alfie to this very day and now Doug has a girlfriend living with him.
Alfie not being one to be pushed around has started a Go Fund Me and is taking the City to court for discrimination again his Charter of Rights among other things.
This is a developing story.
